Voice of China: The Bund in Rose Gold

Shanghai is central to Mephalie's history, and the Mei Collection, which centers on form andfinishing, opens with a tribute to the city. The dial of Voice of China is a solid piece of 18K rose gold, hand-carved into a relief of No. 12 on the Bund, a building once praised as the most luxurious between the Suez Canal and the Bering Strait.

This is no flat picture of a facade. The engraver works the gold in layers, so the dome, the colonnade, and the neighboring clock tower each sit at their own depth. As light crosses the dial, the outlines and shadows shift with it. Above the skyline, the dial carries the brand's original Chinese name and the words "Since 1876."

The case, handset, and pin buckle are all made in 18K rose gold, while an 18K yellow-gold plaque appears on the movement side. Because each dial is engraved by hand, no two are identical. Voice of China measures 11.6mm thick and is limited to 20 pieces.
